5 Must-Have Elements for a High-Converting Squarespace Homepage

Squarespace Homepage Tips to Convert Visitors into Clients

Today is the day. The day I start my very first blog. Welcome!

Well… that might be a bit of a lie. I had a “blog” in 2010 about my furniture-flipping business, which I ran on Etsy. I was newly married and had moved far away from my mom, who lived in Florida. I, on the other hand, was braving the horse and buggies in Lancaster, PA. That place was filled with antiques.

What do they say? You who you surround yourself with? Well, I sure did get excited about antique stuff back then. I loved finding old furniture, stripping it with that messy, disgusting orange stripper, sanding it, repeating the process, and then painting or staining the piece. It was a brutal job, but also very rewarding.

I would document my journey on my little blog—which doesn’t really count, because I had no idea what I was doing. I did sell a couple of pretty cool furniture pieces, though! One lady wanted a desk with Mod Podge book wallpaper on the front of the drawers. That was a custom order I took. It was an interesting choice, but it turned out pretty cool. I always wonder if she still has it 15 years later.

I think that business taught me a lot of lessons. At the time, Pinterest had only been around for about a year, but being able to see and be around arts and crafts on there made me realize I was meant to be in the arts. I fell in love with working for myself and building something from scratch.

This is why I started Jenny Finazzo Designs. This is why I started designing websites and logos.

In this blog post, I’ll show you 5 Must-Have Elements for a High-Converting Squarespace Homepage. It isn’t 2010 anymore. Fast forward to today, and while I’m not creating funky fresh book wallpaper desks anymore, the love for creating something meaningful from scratch is still there. That’s what led me to Squarespace—and today, I want to share what I’ve learned with you.

Did you know that 94% of first impressions relate to your website’s design? In today’s internet world, your homepage isn’t just a place that your customer lands on, it is the start to your potential clients journey through your business. For bloggers and digital marketers, especially those using Squarespace, optimizing your homepage is so important for SEO success and conversion optimization. This is when someone comes to your site and flows a journey to eventually become a customer of yours.

In this guide, we’ll talk about the 5 must-have elements that can improve your Squarespace homepage, ensuring it not only attracts visitors but also converts them!

1. A Clear Message That Explains What You Do

Before someone scrolls, they should instantly know:

1.) What you offer

2.) Who it’s for

3.) Why they should stick around

This is your “hero section” and it is the first thing visitors see.

Include:

  • A short, clear headline using your main target keyword

Example: “Holistic Nutrition Coaching for Women Over 40”

  • A line or two that shares your unique value and brand personality

  • A call-to-action button (like “Schedule a Free Consultation”)

2. Simple, Strategic Navigation

Think of your top site navigation as your homepage GPS. You don’t want too many nav links here because it can look messy and confusing to the visitor.

Keep it clean:

  • Stick to 4–6 main links (like Home, About, Services, Contact)

  • No mega dropdown menus unless totally necessary

  • Keep labels clear and simple (avoid cute but vague names)

Then don’t forget to always open your site on your phone and click around. If it’s slow or hard to read, Google will notice this and so will your visitors.

3. A Friendly Visual First Impression

Before your audience reads a single word, they feel your vibe. Your homepage aesthetics say a lot!

What works best:

  • A large, high-quality photo (you, your product, or a happy client)

  • Consistent brand colors and fonts

  • Clean layout with whitespace

  • Optional: subtle animation or intro video

Use original photos when you can. People connect more with real people and they want to get to know you. Don’t forget to add alt text to your images for accessibility + SEO purposes.

4. Trust Builders That Say “You Can Count on Me”

People don’t buy from websites. They buy from people they trust! So you must show yourself and allow your visitors to get to know you as if you’re meeting them in real life.

Show that you’re the real deal by including:

  • Client testimonials or success stories

  • Certifications, awards, or badges

  • A short bio or welcome message (with a smiling photo of you!)

  • Links to Google reviews, Instagram, or other social proof

Even one strong testimonial next to your “Book Now” button can increase clicks.

5. Words That Google Can Find

This one’s big: if you want to be found online, your homepage needs the right keywords. You want to use keywords without sounding repetative or boring. So make sure you have those words in the back of your head but type the words like they’re coming from your heart and out your mouth!

Think: helpful, human-friendly copy that uses the same phrases your clients search.

How to do it:

  • Use your main keyword (what you offer + who it’s for) in your headline, subheadings, and a few spots in your copy

  • Add related terms (aka semantic keywords) naturally

  • Link to your other key pages (like your services page or contact form)

  • Add alt text and image descriptions that describe what’s pictured using relevant keywords

Just speak clearly, be helpful, and use the same phrases your dream clients would Google.

Quick Recap

To make your Squarespace homepage work hard for you, make sure it has:

  1. A clear message that says who you help and how

  2. Simple navigation that helps people find what they need

  3. Warm, branded visuals that feel inviting

  4. Trust signals that show you’re legit

  5. SEO-friendly copy that Google (and your audience) loves

Even just improving one of these areas can make a noticeable difference in your website’s performance.
